Sanitation

Does the salon you work in use the same sanitation procedures that you learned in school? Please explain. Comments must be at least 1 paragraph of 3 sentences long.

The things that are done in the salon are different from how we learned at school. When washing a client others don't take the time to to clean the shampoo bowl, and almost never put a towel in between the client and the bowl. The thing that's the same is cleaning the hair up after every hair cut.

shannon said.... we have two bins of liquid containers one with yellow soap flakes and the combs go in there first then into the barbercide for 10mins. then we rinse then dry.

Althought in school they teach us to sanitize and disinfect, everyone doesnt follow those rules. Iv'e seen hair left on the floor for hours at a time way after the client has left, and even cleaning the shampoo bowls doesnt seem to matter. You'll see combs brushes and everything else left in the bowls, and even hair in the chair waiting for the next client to sit in it.

hi,
this is michele. And I would like to comment on sara's sanitation comments. The one good thing about the salon that i work in, they hire a crew to do a lot of the sanitation and cleaning. The only thing that we have to make sure that we clean is the shampoo bowl after each use. And we have to make sure that our implements are clean. Sometimes i see people not cleaning their implements but not a major issue.

I can't say that I agree with any of my classmates. We pretty much follow all safety procedures. The only thing that we do, and no one else commented about is wearing flip flops. We are allowed but our manager says that it is unsafe. She also says that she lineant because if state board comes in they really don't come down about them. They look for more hazardous things. And that only if they start to find other things as a problem, will they nit pick at the shoes. I feel that because the salon is very clean and we follow safety procedures, we should not have that problem!!

At the new salon that i am they are very stricted about cleaning the shampoo bowl after each client. Also the stylists are so busy with clients that at the new salon they have extra people that come and clean up the cut hair but at Nappy Roots the hair was jus there until the stylist was free.

I agree with sara the sanitation we do in class isnt as good as in the salon. Combs are being reused and it's really based oin money too the faster yuo go the more time and money you have for the next client.

I also agree with inda because it just doesnt seem as important to sanitize in the salon.Especially at my old salon were hair was left in the sahmpoo bowl water was left on the floor and cut hair was on the floor until the end of the day.
